• The student wears a plain black belt with no characters
• The Shodan certificate is held until the maturity period is complete
• Training continues naturally, with ongoing development in skill, character, and responsibility
• At the instructor’s discretion, the student may begin exposure to Nidan‑level material
• Formal Shodan rank is awarded at the completion of this maturity period.

Note on Rank Structure

Out of respect for legitimate Sōke and 10th Dan practitioners in other martial traditions, Goshin‑Ryū does not use or award the rank of Judan. Within this system, the technical rank structure intentionally ends at Nanadan (7th Dan), with only one designated Hachidan (8th Dan) and one Kudan (9th Dan) serving as the senior leadership ranks.
